Cogan asks Erickson to explain why he’s always giving speeches about heart.
“I’m an entrepreneur at heart,” Erickson clarifies. “The idea of owning a company like FreeConferenceCall.com that was one-tenth the size…I’d be absolutely tickled pink. But what’s really important is that we serve a lot of entrepreneurs, just like me — people who are looking to get their business off the ground.”
“It’s amazing how much a company can do with a FreeConferenceCall.com account,” Erickson asserts. “Companies have been launched on FreeConferenceCall.com. I have that same heart.”
The Ever-Evolving Business Plan
Much to Cogan’s amazement, Erickson believes in a flexible approach to business plans.
“I started mowing lawns as a kid and kept morphing…Ultimately, if I didn’t change my plan, I’d still be mowing lawns,” Erickson declares. “You can stay on what you thought was going to work in the beginning, or you can make adjustments — or you can go down an entirely different path.”
“I think if you were still in the lawn-mowing business,” Cogan quips, “you would have revolutionized that.”
Life Lessons for the Kids
Erickson breaks it down for the kids (or kids at heart) out there who are dreaming of being a business hero:
- Dream big. Don’t try and right-size your dreams.
- Find out what you’re good at and do that.
- Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.
